Scope of work
Pre-implementation analysis, audit of the current website (technical and UX), UX/UI design, design improvements

As part of our collaboration with Mszana Dolna Town Council, we carried out a comprehensive modernisation of the town’s official website using the TYPO3 CMS. The aim of the project was to modernise the visual design and significantly improve the user experience – for both residents and tourists visiting the region. This project holds an important place in our TYPO3 portfolio, serving as an example of a large-scale modernisation of a public website with high functional and accessibility requirements. It is one of our key TYPO3 projects for local government.

Modernisation of the Mszana Dolna town website

Scope of work:

User experience (UX) improvements

Faster access to key information:

  • Adding the sections “Get things done”, “Most visited” and “For residents / For tourists” to the homepage – improving the website’s usability and the accessibility of information,
  • A visible events calendar, shortcuts to ePUAP, administrative matters and news.
Search engine with autocomplete suggestions:
  • The previous search engine was not very intuitive
  • We have implemented dynamic suggestions and real-time filtering of results.
User-friendly language and improved terminology:
  • Simplified language and tab names, e.g. instead of ‘Local Government’ → ‘City Authorities’, ‘City Hall’ → ‘Get things done’.
Improved accessibility (WCAG):
  • Colour contrast, font sizes, options for people with visual impairments (e.g. the ability to change text size or high-contrast mode).
  • Alternative text for images, correct labelling of H1–H6 headings.
Integration with social media and the newsletter:
  • Visible social media icons, option to subscribe to a newsletter (e.g. with local news).

Design improvements:

A modern and consistent design
  • The previous design of the website was outdated and did not meet contemporary aesthetic standards.
  • We have implemented a more modern flat design layout with clear typography and a subdued, consistent colour palette.
Improved visual hierarchy:
  • Highlighting the most important information (e.g. announcements, events, notices).
  • Use of larger headings, icons and colour accents to make the content easier to scan.
Responsiveness (mobile-first design):
  • The website is now fully optimised for mobile devices and tablets. Previously, some elements were difficult to read or use on a mobile phone.
Simplified navigation:
  • The main menu has been simplified – it was previously too complex and difficult to read.
  • We have implemented a three-level menu and a hamburger menu on mobile devices, thereby improving the website’s accessibility.

The end result

The result of this work is a modern, functional and visually appealing website that meets users’ needs and makes it easier for residents to contact the council. The new version has been well received by both council staff and the local community.
